The Jourdains Babysitter's Guide
We've created this guide for both new and existing Jourdains babysitters to use. We hope it makes for good reading and is helpful!
All babysitting bookings are for a minimum of 3 hours. The family will pay you directly on the night. Hourly rates for babysitters are:
Sunday - Thursday: £6 per hour, £7 per hour after midnight
Friday - Saturday: £6.50 per hour, £7 per hour after midnight
Commitment: Whilst there is no obligation for babysitters to work a certain amount of evenings per week, once you commit to a booking, we do expect you to turn up and work.
Cancelling: If a babysitter cancels a booking, this can often cause a lot of problems both for Jourdains and the family that you are due to work for. Whilst we understand that unforseen circumstances may arise, we do expect all of our babysitters to be totally reliable and work when you have committed yourself to.
Meeting a new family: If it's your first time babysitting for a family, please remember to do the following:
- Give the family a call a few days before you are due to babysit.
- This is so you can introduce yourself, confirm timings and directions to the family's house.
- Make sure to check directions on a map beforehand, so that you are clear of where the family's house is.
Arrival time: Please always arrive 5 minutes earlier than the time you are expected to babysit. It looks both professional and reliable to all families who you babysit for.
Contact information:
- Once you arrive at the family's house, make sure to ask for mobile numbers of both parents, and a landline number/address of their destination.
- If the family has a trustworthy neighbour's contact information too, that's even better, just in case there was an emergency.
- Ask the family if they are happy for you to answer the home phone whilst they are out - just in case they need to contact you or give the family your mobile number.
Children:
- If the children require any medication, please ask the parents to give medicine to their children before they go out. Do not administer any medicine.
- Ask about what will comfort the children, should they wake up whilst their parents are out.
- Make sure to find out the children's bedtime routine, for example: do they like a story before bed!?
Families: We have some lovely families, and will try to send you to regular clients when we can.
Please note: We do not mind the family having your mobile phone number, but please refer them to Jourdains for any future babysitting bookings.
Please contact the Jourdains team if you have any problems, questions or if you need to discuss anything with regards to babysitting.
Thanks for all your hard work both now and in the future!
